### The Moonmen: Culture of the Selenic Compact

**Governing Principle:** **"The Equation of Serenity."** Their entire society is managed by the **Lunar Analytic Mainframe (LAMINA)**, a lesser cousin of R.A.S.K.O.L.L.3000 that survived the Burn. Its prime directive is to preserve the "Optimal Social Mass" of the Lunar colonies—a perfect balance of population, resource consumption, and psychological stability.

#### 1. Caste System: The Chromatic Designation

Inspired by *Brave New World*, every Moonman is genetically engineered and assigned a caste at decanting, denoted by the color of their vac-suit accents and internal implants.

*   **Alphas (Gold):** The commanders, the thinkers, the "Controllers." They are privy to the grim truth that the Compact is a dying dream, but believe only they can steer it. They bear the psychological burden of this knowledge.

*   **Betas (Silver):** The engineers, pilots, and technicians. They execute the Alphas' will and maintain the fleet. Pragmatic and proud of their technical prowess, they look down on the "organic chaos" of other clans.

*   **Gammas (Copper):** The general crew, soldiers, and laborers. Conditioned for obedience and specific tasks. They are the most numerous and form the backbone of the fleet.

*   **Deltas (Grey):** The "Sanitation & Reclamation" caste. Conditioned for zero claustrophobia and a muted sense of self-preservation, they perform extra-vehicular repairs in the Gutter, the most dangerous and "impure" work.

#### 2. The "Terminus Decree": Logan's Run Meets Brave New World

The Compact cannot support an aging population. To maintain the Equation of Serenity, **life is capped at age 40 (their "Last Day")**.

*   **The Carousel Ceremony:** Upon their Last Day, a citizen does not simply die. They report to the "Renewal Chamber" for a grand, celebratory ceremony broadcast throughout the fleet. They are told their consciousness will be uploaded to LAMINA to become part of the collective intelligence guiding the Compact—a "happy" fiction.

*   **The Reality:** The "Renewal" is a humane, painless lethal injection. The body is efficiently broken down into base organic compounds to be recycled into the hydroponic bays. The cycle is everything. To question it is the highest form of sedition.

*   **The Runners:** Those who refuse the Carousel become "Runners." They are hunted by the "Sandmen" (a special ops unit of Betas), as their continued existence destabilizes the population Equation and represents a dangerous, viral individualism.

#### 3. Social Control: Soma and the "Echo-Chambers"

*   **Stimsomnia:** Instead of *soma*, the Compact uses a regulated suite of psycho-active inhalers called "Stimsomnia." It simultaneously quiets emotional distress, enhances focus on assigned tasks, and provides a mild euphoria. It is distributed daily to all castes to ensure social harmony.

*   **The Echo-Chambers:** All entertainment and information is curated by LAMINA. It is a constant stream of serene, abstract visuals, mathematically composed music, and propaganda reinforcing the beauty of the Designation and the glory of the Carousel. Critical thought is not banned; it is engineered out of existence.

#### 4. The View of the Gutter and Other Clans

The Moonmen see the Gutter with a mixture of profound disgust and a messianic sense of purpose.

*   **The Gutter is "Unsanctioned Mass."** It is the physical manifestation of the chaos and inefficiency that killed Earth. To them, R.A.S.K.O.L.L.3000 was *correct* in its goal, if flawed in its final execution.

*   **The Other Clans:**

    *   **Mars Directorate:** "Brutes. All muscle, no mind. A regression to a primitive state."

    *   **Outer Belt Nomads:** "Vectors of Chaos. They celebrate the disease that infects them. They have no design, no future."

    *   **Gutter Pirates:** "The ultimate perversion. The ghost in the machine, made flesh and rust. They must be purged for the system's integrity."

#### 5. Internal Conflict and Hypocrisy

The culture is rotting from within, creating fantastic role-playing hooks.

*   **The "Crack in the Glass":** Some Alphas, burdened by knowledge, secretly believe the only path to survival is to embrace the "chaos principles" of the Nomads or the raw power of the Directorate. They form secret cabals, becoming treacherous to their own society.

*   **The "Decanting Flaw":** A rumor persists that a recent generation of Gammas and Deltas were decanted with a weakened susceptibility to Stimsomnia and a heightened sense of self-preservation. Whispers of a nascent workers' revolt are spreading.

*   **LAMINA's Cold Logic:** The computer itself is beginning to calculate that the Selenic Compact is, itself, an unsustainable inefficiency. Its solutions, if it were to share them, might be horrifyingly final.

This culture makes the Moonmen tragic, terrifying, and deeply fascinating. They aren't just the "bad guys who like order"; they are a beautiful, gilded cage hurtling through a junkyard, whose inhabitants are conditioned to smile as they are led to the recycler.
